This woodland cemetery occupies the former Dornhalde shooting range. Surviving embankments and the garrison marksmen’s house at its northern edge recall that use. It is opposite Stuttgart’s Waldfriedhof but is a separate cemetery.
The nine-hectare cemetery was established in 1974 on the royal Dornhalde shooting range. Two former range embankments remain visible. The 1977 burial of Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin and Jan-Carl Raspe brought the site wider attention.
